Transformations through the Pacific Jubilee Program

By Emily Cherneski –

butterflyI’ve always loved butterflies. A butterfly’s transformation happens when it emerges from the chrysalis, a once in a lifetime occurrence. We, on the other hand, can be transformed and emerge from many different chrysalises at different times.

A number of my transformations occurred during the Pacific Jubilee Program and continue as a result of the program.  Transformed from a ‘doer’ to a ‘being’. From a multitasking high functioning ‘doer’ 3 (on the Enneagram) to a ‘being’ able to experience the exceptional in the ordinary…. able to breathe deeply and take time to appreciate the beauty of a flower, a sunset, the wonderful gift of the world around us. To sit without a book in hand or my monkey mind reviewing my to do list is almost miraculous.

Transformed from being totally encased in the ivory tower of the head to realizing that the heart exists (as do feelings) and holds a great deal of wisdom. Not everything in life can be learned from a book or can be rationalized. What a revelation for a 3! Consulting my heart rather than my head was revolutionary and continues to be a challenge.

Transformed from talking about the superficial to engaging in heart-felt deep discussions. Finding like-minded companions to accompany me on my spiritual journey was eye opening and awe inspiring.

During the time I was enrolled in the program, my mother was bedridden and into her last days on Earth. A woman who was so faith-filled all of her life became uncertain about death, dying and what might be waiting for her after death. The PJP program gave me the skills and tools to help probe her uncertainty and have meaningful, loving discussions with her.

The PJP program transformed me and made me a better person. I am more compassionate, less judgmental, more open to vulnerability in myself and more sensitive to vulnerability in others. I have learned to see with my inner wisdom and to lead with my heart rather than my head.

Thank you to my good friend, Cherie Westmoreland for the beautiful butterfly photograph.
